JAH ELECT

Jah Elect is a fresh, new voice in music, whose future is full of potential to refashion the reggae music scene. Elect uses what some would consider weaknesses to position himself as a paradigm shifter: someone who doesn’t approach his craft following the traditional structures and patterns. His journey into the realm of music was a long, winding one. Never a formally trained musician, Elect has used his experiences with various cultures and his heavy influence from a wide-range of musical tastes to create a sound uniquely his.

Jah Elect’s strongest attribute is his writing ability, and it is indeed this craft that he began mastering the earliest while still a youth in Jacksonville, Florida. He has been writing stories, poems, and lyrics from the tender age of 8. After high school, he yearned to venture out own his own, and attended DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. There he began breaking down his fears of performing publicly, practicing his still developing skills primarily as a spoken word artist.

While in Chicago, Elect also greatly expanded his mind spiritually and socially, and embraced a message of social justice, truth and equality, and self-empowerment. He was fortunate enough during this time to travel to Ghana, West Africa where he deepened his historical perspective and spiritual enlightenment. It was at this time that Elect first came to love reggae music, and soon there after the next chapter in his odyssey would begin.

After the birth of his son, Elect came home to Florida where he began to actually record music with local artists in Jacksonville. He knew his art needed to be developed to another level however, and he enrolled at Full Sail Real World Education in Orlando, Florida. Over the next two years he received a crash course in music production, promotion, and theory. He graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in October of 2006.

This was also the birth of Zion’s Garden Entertainment, which saw Elect combine with artists Asya and King Thayo to form the powerful trio One A.R.T. Since then Elect has worked with artists including Hawaiian singer Kana, and Tampa’s Badda Skat. He has laid the foundation with his core followers, who patiently await the day his abilities are fully recognized. That day is expected to come in 2008 with the release of his debut album, American Yard. Whether he receives international acclaim or remains an underground legend, Jah Elect is sure to leave a lasting impact on the future of music.

BADDA SKAT

Born as Aaron Smith in 1981, Badda Skat did not manifest himself until the year 2000. Still, reggae music has long been an influence in the life that would shape this performer. Where some may look and see a disadvantage due to a considerably late start, Badda Skat sees it as “Jah’s due time” and uses it for inspiration to keep pushing forward.

Emerging from the underground scene of internet dancehall, Badda began to perfect his craft and systematically carve out his space in the industry. Working with a variety of producers globally, Badda put together an arsenal of tracks that he soon organized together as a way to educate and inform the masses. With a focus on conscious material and informative content, word began to spread about not only the skill of the delivery, but also the quality of lyrics that were on display.

Badda Skat has strived to remain independent in the production of his music, both financially and creatively. Dub Shot Studios, the location where a majority of Badda’s tracks were recorded, first started as a 10’ x 10’ room that also doubled as his living space. Keeping the name Dub Shot though out its various incarnations, these humble studios would go on to record over one hundred full-length productions, and most recently the debut album for Badda Skat, GRASS ROOTS.

Radio stations from all over the world have begun to recognize Badda’s potential, even while operating beneath the mainstream radar. He has earned airplay on stations such as WSUN in Tampa, FL, KSVY in Sonoma, CA, as well as Unique FM in Nottingham, UK. Badda Skat’s message is starting to be heard.

Badda performed to a variety of audiences within the US last year, booking tours that have touched states like Florida, Ohio, Missouri, Georgia, Nebraska, and Kansas. He has also performed live with numerous bands such as Jah Roots, Tribal Style, Dreadnot, Offshore Riot, The Bonham House, and Misgana. Jah Roots provided the musical foundation for GRASS ROOTS, and the track “Empress” which was featured on Jah Roots latest release, Crucial.

Badda has had the privilege of opening for international acts such as Morgan Heritage, Less Than Jake, I Wayne, 311, and Matisyahu.

KANA

There's a new powerful voice in reggae music quickly taking over, by the unassuming name Kana. Born as Daniel Kiehm in 1989, Kana took his Hawaiian name reflecting his respect for his polynesian heritage. Kana is a dynamic artist, whose silky voice can both ride an acoustic guitar with natural Hawaiian ease, or burn Babylon on a bubbling roots riddim.

He describes his overall message, “[being] that Jah love is over all,” which is no laughing matter with singles such as, “Serious Times,” “Fyah Haffi Burn,” and “Set Them Straight” On his devoted Rastafarian faith he says, "Jah is at the center of who I am and guides me to become the person I know I am supposed to be." "Without Jah, I wouldn't be playing or singing.”

Though a new artist onto the scene, Kana is not a newcomer to music itself, on which he says he’s been singing his entire life. It’s his resultant range and versatility which has scored him a EP release with Zion's Garden. With a string of successful live shows, a deal with Uprise Records, and strong collaborations with Jah Sun, Jah Elect, Badda Skat, Ancient Mind, Judahs, Madi Simmons, and more.

So what can we expect in the future from such an enthusiastic and promising artist? " [You] can expect big things from me, with Jah's guidance and protection.” With an Uprise Records mixtape-album release and a Hawaiian tour slated for Summer time 2008, we can safely say things are just getting started for this simmering artist.
